Szapora

This fabulous Octtet has become legendary for brilliant and mesmerising performances from all over middle and Eastern Europe: doina’s from Romania, csardas’ from Hungary and hora’s from Bulgaria. Violinist Chris Garrick has been described as an extraordinary musician whose fiddle playing “…was a stunning display of musicianship, whether lightly dancing, delicately teasing or producing pyrotechnics that scorched the very timbers of the building.” Virtuoso accordionist Eddie Hession was plucked from his golden seat with the Three Tenors to join the band. Dave Kelbie, mandolin player of “…staggering ability…” and founder member of Szapora (formerly known as The Budapest Café Orchestra) presents the band in a laconic style, which belies the furious, reckless but passionate music to follow. It’s a sound that will instil itself in your bloodstream and stay there forever. MILES KINGTON
