Debut album for the trio recorded in Athens, February 2017

With the expert help of the great Greek soloist of accordion Dimos Vougioukas, Tcha Limberger explores the wonders of Greek music present in Istanbul (Konstantinoupolis) and Smyrne (Asia Minor) at the beginning of the 20th century before Rebetiko. Rhythms such as Zeybek, Karsilama, Hasapiko and Kalamatiano with the full use of quarter tones similar to Turkish Makam, a brilliant debut recording.

An amazing debut album with a sound and character all of it’s own and the quartet’s only recording.
Unlike most other violinists Aitchison looks elsewhere than Grappelli’s lyrical violin for his inspiration. This album has it’s roots in American swing jazz of the late 1930s and the 1940s and, in particular the recordings of the Benny Goodman Sextet with Goodman’s clarinet and Charlie Christian’s electric guitar as the dominant front-line sound.
Shout choruses, hard driving riffs and a bluesy character all of it’s own led to a Nomination for ‘Best Traditional Jazz Album of 2009’ in Offbeat magazine
