Eli Yamin, pianist, jazz & blues ambassador and composer of jazz musicals teams up with New
Orleans-based clarinetist Evan Christopher, for a salute to their jazz heroes including Louis
Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Sidney Bechet and Mary Lou Williams
Thanks to all our jazz heroes past and present. Also thanks to Rhea Gill of Arts are Basic in Nebraska for asking us to put together a program of our heroes and to Judi Holifield and the Mississippi Arts Commission for presenting the duo several times and supporting its growth. Thank-you to Adrianna Fabrega for the use of her magnificent painting for the cover. The painting was originally inspired by Rwandan Child, a composition by Eli Yamin. It perfectly represents Louie’s Dream, and the idea that paying attention to the wisdom of children helps us know and support the unity of all humanity.
Louie’s Dream is an album of spirited and simpatico duets
NATE CHINEN, THE NEW YORK TIMES US
With two young and inspired players like Messrs. Christopher and Yamin, the duet format is a perfect setting for making the legacy of traditional jazz—and songs older than their grandfathers—come alive
WALL STREET JOURNAL US
Yamin and Christopher look back to a time when jazz was alive with visceral sensation. This is the music of a day gone by, reinvigorated for a new generation. It honors the past, not by copying but by building on what had been done; everything old made new again
