ROMANCE WITHOUT FINANCE TRACKLIST & AUDIO

G’day,

The world has changed dramatically since we recorded this album in 2017. At the time, despite some challenges, the three of us were effervescent, full of vigour and enjoying many of life’s treats being afforded us – especially sound engineer Nick Taylor’s espresso. We played with abandon and just enjoyed each other’s company.
Life in 2020 has thrown many more challenges, now seemingly insurmountable, at both the world as a whole and at us individually. When once we travelled the world and played too many gigs in an assortment of ensembles, we now find ourselves separated by great distances and, as in my case currently, quarantined. For the foreseeable future, joining together to play music and bring joy to a room full of people seems an impossibility.
Around the world, the institutions that we have relied upon to uphold our safety, health and peace have fallen short and have, at times, failed catastrophically. Leaders who have openly encouraged division amongst us are enjoying the fruits of their endeavours at a time when the survival of the human race depends upon unity and cooperation.
Releasing an album at this time therefore, feels more than a little frivolous and out of touch. When I listen to it though, I’m transported back to feeling optimistic and happy and so for this reason, it feels like an extremely minor yet important gesture. If our music makes one set of lips smile or one row of toes tap then we’ll have achieved something small but important. Better still, if it can make two people from different walks of life dance together then in our own minuscule way, we have helped to contribute to the healing of the world.
