LEJAZZETAL & LEJAZZETAL RECORDS

Founded by musician, producer, and rhythm guitarist Dave Kelbie, Lejazzetal has been a driving force in bringing world-class, genre-defying music to audiences for nearly three decades. With a deep love for jazz, folk, and traditional music from across Europe and beyond, Kelbie’s passion lies in reinventing traditional music with contemporary players, creating fresh interpretations while honoring the rich legacies of these genres. As a rhythm guitarist, Kelbie has been a key part of the rhythm section in many world-class acts, using his solid, innovative approach to provide the foundation for countless musical collaborations. His expertise and experience as both a musician and producer have shaped the label and agency’s ethos, focusing on the preservation and reinvention of tradition, while fostering a network of artists who bring new energy and perspectives to timeless sounds.

Lejazzetal’s journey began with two seminal recordings featuring the legendary Fapy Lafertin, laying the foundation for both the agency and record label. Since then, it has worked with some of the most celebrated musicians in their fields, including the phenomenal Belgian-born violinist Tcha Limberger, a key member of the recently formed The Viper Club, alongside the fiery trumpet of Jerome Etcheberry and the lead in the Belgian all-string band Les Violons de Bruxelles. The Viper Club’s debut album, Tain’t No Use, received critical acclaim and awards, cementing their place as torchbearers of the timeless swing tradition. The label also collaborates with the extraordinary guitarist Mozes Rosenberg, one of the finest heirs to the Django Reinhardt legacy, with whom they recorded the CD Live in Foix.

A recent highlight is the collaboration with New Orleans jazz icon Don Vappie and his transatlantic ensemble Jazz Creole. This US/European project blends the deep traditions of Creole jazz with a fresh, contemporary spirit. Their debut album, The Blue Book of Storyville, has been met with widespread acclaim, praised for its authenticity, virtuosity, and storytelling through music.

Another key part of Lejazzetal’s roster is The Dime Notes, possibly the most world-travelled vintage jazz band. Specialising in the raucous, swinging sounds of 1920s New Orleans and beyond, they have built a global reputation for their energetic performances, deep repertoire, and exceptional musicianship.

Lejazzetal Records, established to document and share these extraordinary musical encounters, has built an admired catalog of albums. Landmark releases include those by Tcha Limberger’s Budapest Gypsy Orchestra, the historic 94-96 The Recordings by Fapy Lafertin & Lejazz, the highly regarded The Blue Book of Storyville, and Django à la Créole by Django à la Creole, which continues to hold a cult status and was led by US clarinetist Evan Christopher, a powerhouse of sound, swing, and invention, hailed as “possibly the best there’s ever been.”

Beyond recordings, Lejazzetal continues to bring this music to the world through international touring and special projects, ensuring that these exceptional artists and their traditions remain alive, evolving, and inspiring new generations. Whether on stage or in the studio, Lejazzetal is dedicated to keeping the artistry, passion, and soul of this music at the forefront.
